Welcome to BLASST

Sess·ion·al Staff /sessional stǽf/ noun.
Any teachers in higher education who are employed on a casual or contract or sessional basis. This may include lecturers, tutors, unit, program and subject convenors, demonstrators, and markers.

Welcome to the BLASST legacy site– for a project funded by the Australian Government Office for Learning and Teaching to support and enhance quality teaching by sessional staff in higher education.

In acknowledgement of the contribution made by sessional staff in higher education, the BLASST project established a national Sessional Staff Standards Framework to evaluate and support the learning and teaching, management and administrative policy, procedure, and practices affecting sessional and casual teachers in higher education.

These national standards were implemented and embedded through a 2014 National Teaching Fellowship awarded to Dr Marina Harvey.

Four universities were involved in developing the BLASST standards.

Support for the project was provided by the Australian Government Department of Education and Teaching. The views expressed in this website do not necessarily reflect the views of the Australian Government Department of Education and Training.
